If you are looking to change a small amount of British Pounds for euro currency for your holiday, then a quick search on the internet will point you in the direction of many banks and other companies who offer this service.
The exchange rate is of course very important, but do not forget to check for other or even hidden charges within the transaction. Many charge a commission or fee charged outside of the exchange rate. Some charge for credit card transactions or courier charges for delivery.
If, however, you are looking to exchange more substantial funds, such as for a property purchase, then this makes it even more imperative to find the best exchange rate out there. Whereas companies tend to charge between 2% and 4% above the interbank rate for smaller transactions, they really sharpen their pencil when it comes to the larger deals and you can find companies willing to exchange for less than 1% above interbank.
There are even comparison websites which clearly show the best of the currency brokers, with rate, commission structure and minimum transaction amount. This makes it easy to compare several brokers at a glance, although you must be aware of course that they may not list all brokers and there may still be an even better deal to be had. A little patience in finding the best deal will bring dividends.
